I used to have to come to New Orleans a lot when I worked for a non-profit that sponsored industry conferences. I guess I’ve been here about six or seven times over the years, pre-Hurriance Katrina and after as well. In the early days, the place always seemed so dirty and overwhelming to me, but it seems cleaner now and less ominous.

The one thing that hasn’t changed is this weird undercurrent of misogyny that I feel whenever I walk around the French Quarter. I know it’s just for laffs, but it seems like all of the touristy crap (like t-shirts and stuff), aimed at men is about being drunk, while the crap aimed at women is about their bodies or their (bad) attitudes.

I’m probably over-thinking this. I suppose if you are a person who is inclined to have a good time (and by good time, I mean drink a lot), New Orleans would be fun for you. Otherwise, New Orleans is just awight. Sorry.

I woke up this morning feeling like I got hit by a Mack Truck. There’s nothing worse than feeling the onset of a cold and/or (goddess-forbid) the flu, and needing to hop on a plane.

I wish I could just teleport myself home right now.
