It’s flu shot day at my office today. I’m always surprised when people opt-out of having a flu shot. Call me paranoid, but I think it’s a good practice to get it annually. Plus, have you seen Contagion? I know people who say that they always get sick right after they’ve gotten the flu shot in the past, which is why they avoid it, but that thinking seems flawed to me. Also, I’m surprised when parents don’t vaccinate their kids, but that’s an entirely different discussion.
Remember when everyone was freaking out about the Swine Flu a few years ago? Apparently, the formulation of the regular flu shot didn’t cover Swine Flu, so kids and the elderly had to get separate shots for Swine Flu. I had to take the boy and wait in line for three hours because there was a shortage. It was crazy. And then my doctor told me that I should get the shot as well because of my allergy-induced asthma. So when I went to get the Swine Flu shot myself, everyone in line was over 60, and then there was me. Good times.
