Had a lunch meeting today, unusual since people often cancel on me at the last minute. In fact, it’s become something of a running joke at my office that the best time to have lunch with me is on a day when I have a lunch meeting scheduled. Today’s lunch happened after a few false starts, a cancellation due to Hurricane Irene, a reschedule due to illness.

Despite what I do professionally, i.e., schmooze people for a living, I’m actually terrible lunch company, especially in a business context. One, I don’t really like to eat in front of other people (I’ve been known to order a salad during a lunch meeting, push the lettuce around, then have an actual lunch after the meeting). Two, talking about business while you’re eating is about as compelling as talking about business while you’re eating.

In the end, though, today’s lunch meeting was actually fun, probably because it was off the record and my lunch date had a few drinks. Did I mention that we met at a Midtown bar to watch the U.S. Open during our meeting?

I had a crazy good burger, pictured above, that was made of ground sirloin, prepared on the spot. I asked for medium, but I got rare. It was basically like eating steak tartare. Still, it was mighty tasty, if you like that kind of thing. I didn’t eat the bun, though.
