When I first got out of school, I worked for an entertainment-slash-pop culture magazine, and as a result, I was a ballot voter for the MTV Video Music Awards for many years. At first it was fun to help select the winning videos (especially back when MTV actually showed music videos) and go to the awards show when it was in New York. But over the years, I would get ballots and have no idea who any of the nominees were, let alone be aware of any of their videos/music, so I would randomly select whoever was on the ballot. I think they caught on because a few years ago I stopped getting ballots.
I guess the VMAs happened over the weekend and the big news was Beyonce and her baby bump. It’s not like there’s anything else happening in the world that would warrant bigger coverage than Beyonce and Jay-Z becoming parents. Good for them, I guess?
