Having an active kid means having to find enough activities to occupy his time. I’ve said that I’m fearful of over-programming the boy, but he seems to have an unlimited supply of energy, so finding productive and creative outlets for him has been an interesting exercise in parenting for me. Let’s face it: I’m not called lazy dad for nothing.
The boy has been taking gymnastics since he was a wee lad and has spent the Summer in swimming lessons. As we head into the Fall, I’ve been trying to figure out what’s next. Busy daddy suggested kung fu or some other martial arts, which the boy is interested in, but we haven’t yet found the right dojo or studio for him to attend.
We know that there are two things that the boy loves above all else: (pretend) fighting with weapons and dancing. Since the boy will probably end up living in Brazil when he grows up because that’s where the world economy is headed, we figured that capoeira might be the right activity for him. I found an Afro-Brazilian culture center near us that offers capoeira classes for kids, starting in September. Looks like that’s going to be the boy’s Fall activity. Should be fun.
