Despite appearances, we actually don’t go out to dinner much, at least not during the week. We usually end up going out to dinner on Friday nights and on the weekends. We originally planned to get some Thai food tonight, but honestly, we’ve been eating so much Thai food that it’s getting sort of boring. I asked the boy what he wanted for dinner, and he said he wanted to go to the local diner.
The diner in town is awful. Really, it is. I mean, the people there are nice, but the food is crap. We haven’t been there in a long time, so we decided to give the joint another chance. We got there early enough for the Early Bird Special, which means the boy, busy daddy and I ate our dinners with the geriatric crowd. It was kind of sad. Busy daddy had the roast chicken, which was OK, and the boy had bacon and pancakes. He specifically requested toast, which he didn’t touch. I had what amounted to Salisbury Steak, which was over-cooked, if that’s possible. The broccoli was watery and bland. The mashed potatoes came from a dry mix.
One pet peeve: I hate it when you go to a restaurant and there’s a “special” that includes soup/salad, entree and dessert, and at the end of the meal they hand you the check without giving you your dessert. Here’s the thing, I didn’t even want the dessert but I paid for it, so just bring the crappy dessert.
